Ha Nam hosts Vietnam – Japan traditional art exchange
A traditional art exchange programme between Vietnam and Japan was held in the northern province of Ha Nam on November 27, as part of the activities to mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries.
Leaders of Ha Nam Province and Japanese Embassy in Vietnam present flowers to Vietnamese and Japanese artists.
At the programme, artists from Ha Nam Provincial Culture and Arts Centre performed cheo (Vietnamese traditional opera), while Japanese artists introduced Vietnamese audiences to performances of Kyogen comedy, the first comedic art form in Japan with a long history of 650 years.
Kyogen is a traditional art form that Japan is proud to introduce to international friends and has been recognised by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.

Speaking at the programme, Vice Chairman of the Ha Nam Provincial People’s Committee Tran Xuan Duong said the cooperation between Ha Nam Province and Japanese localities has been strongly promoted in recentyears.
He also added that the province has organised many visits and investment promotion activities in provinces and cities of Japan. In addition to economics, the province has focused on enhancing cultural cooperation, especially in traditional art forms, thereby strengthening exchanges as well as understanding between the two sides.

For his part, Japanese Deputy Ambassador to Vietnam Watanabe Shige said that Japan’s Kyogen and Vietnam’s cheo have similarities. He expressed his hope that the two countries will boost mutual understanding through the traditional art exchange programme.
